Dominant form of the basement is andesite. This rock gave origin to Cambisols representing the main soil type of the site. However, the topsoil of these soils may contain a high proportion of skeletic particles (up to the stone size). Sporadically high stoniness of the topsoil is reflected in the vegetation cover (formation of scree type forest communities).

The site is situated within the Protected Landscape Area - Biosphere Reserve Poľana and it also falls to the territory of the proposed Poľana SPA. The site is dominated by the habitat type 9130 Asperulo-Fagetum beech forests (in Slovakia mapped as the habitat type beech-fir woods on fertile soils) that is in the situations of terrain extremes replaced by the herb-rich communities of 9180* Tilio-Acerion forests on slopes, screes and ravines.

Implementation of the non-sensitive forest management practices can lead to undesirable changes in the status of local forest communities and their biological diversity.
