Triturus montandoni

Basement of the site is mostly built by granodiorites and diorites with a sporadic presence of magnetic iron ore.

The site is protected under Ramsar Convention and belongs to one of the most preserved wetland areas of Slovakia. It has been included in the national network of protected areas. The site features communities of the habitat types 6430 Hygrophilous tall-herb fringe communities of plains and of the montane to alpine belts and 9110 Luzulo-Fagetum beech forest. These types are accompanied by the representative examples of the habitat 7140 Transition mires and quaking bogs (under protection of Ramsar Convention) which belong to one of the most preserved habitats of the kind in Slovakia.

The site might negatively be impacted by the self-propelled invasion of tree specimen (seral processes) such as spruce, willow species, birch, aspen, juniper, etc. from the surrounding area. Even though the site belongs to the forestland cadastre category the occupier has not introduced activities with direct negative impact on its natural status although some efforts to afforest the site have been previously recorded. Its upper drier part used to be grazed in the past but regular grazing has been withdrawn. Therefore is possible to say that the area is free of any significant anthropogenic impact.
