Popis územia
Geological basement of the site is dominated by the quartzite rocks of early Triassic (sedimentary rocks) as well as various slates, quartz sandstones and sandy limestones. Eastern sections of the site feature unique natural phenomenon when hundreds of years of erosion processes resulted in the exposure of interestingly laid quartzite layers.
Ciele ochrany
The site supports the semi-natural forest communities providing ideal living conditions for a whole range of nationally protected species of fauna including large carnivores (brown bear Ursus arctos, European lynx Lynx lynx). The site is protected within the national network of protected areas.
Zraniteľnosť
Southern edges of the site border the build-up area of Ponická Huta village. Contact sections are therefore vulnerable to the impact of daily village activities. Invasive species of flora penetrating the site along the Zolná stream alluvium (southern border of the NNR) might in the future initiate unwanted changes to the character of local communities.
