The site represents a fragment of natural landscape of the foothills of Vysoké Tatry Mts. Typical features of landscape are the result of extensive management of the area in the past when mankind showed respect for the environment and its needs. Forest hedgerows, pastures, hay meadows with their typical hay "huts" are still pretty much on display, although almost wiped out from remaining parts of northern Slovakia. In the near future, nature conservation efforts shall primarily concentrate on the gradual revitalisation of the high value landscape structure.

The site represents largest survived fragment of natural landscape in the setting of the foothills of Vysoké Tatry Mts. featuring a rich mosaic of meadow, fen and pasture communities. It supports a large number of protected, endangered and rare species of Slovak flora. The site comprises several different types of bog habitats ranging from fens displaying high carbonate content to oligotrophic peat bogs.

The site and its valuable communities are under immediate threat of being destroyed. Largest changes leaving profound mark on the character of the site took place in the 1970's. Vast swaths of the site were then subjected to various forms of high intensity land management and systematic drainage. Sections of the site were gradually transformed into arable land (minor part) or high intensity pastureland (livestock grazing, sheep farming). Only remnants from the original extent of meadow, pasture and wetland habitats, area of which previously most decreased, have been preserved to date. Given very limited area, these habitats are more vulnerable than ever. Waterlogged sections of the site are under threat from being altered by seral processes. Drained areas, on the other hand, suffer all major "symptoms" of high intensity livestock management (soil and vegetation cover damage). As a result of the aforementioned, fragmented remnants of valuable habitats and communities have only limited ability to resist and balance off negative impact of the activities realised in the neighbourhood of the site.
