Územie zahrnuje centrálnu časť pohoria Tribeč. Tato je tvorená vyzdvihnutým The site includes the central part of the Tribeč Mts.. It is built of a raised granodiorite core disposed of a cover of deposited triassic quarzites. Partially the carbonate mesosoic deposits are present. Dominant vegetation types are floriferous and submountain beech forests and maple mountain forests. The oak stands occur in the slopes of Veľký Tribeč. In the northwestern part of the site there are so-called quarzite hills with typical acidophilous vegetation developed there, in the southern part there is on calcites xerophile vegetation very rich in species developed there. Percentage within biogeographic regions: Alpine 93.835%, Pannonic 6.165%

Site is one of the three most important areas in Slovakia for nesting of Aquila heliaca. Regularly nest here more than 1% of national population of Bubo bubo, Caprimulgus europaeus, Pernis apivorus, Dendrocopos medius, Ficedula albicollis, Coturnix coturnix, Jynx torquilla, Streptopelia turtur, Phoenicurus phoenicurus, Muscicapa striata and Sylvia nisoria.

Forest management measures such as inappropriately timed felling (spring/autumn felling), regeneration of forest stands colliding with the onset of the Imperial eagle (Aquila heliaca) breeding season, removal of the old hollowed trees, stubs, broken trees, windthrows, etc., pose substantial threat to the general welfare of bird species subject to conservation efforts. On the other hand, strip clear-cutting applied upon the end of common breeding season is seen as benefiting the Imperial eagle lifestyle. From the conservation point of view it is desirable to pay adequate attention to the following: excess hunting (birds of prey and owl species shooting), insufficient technical protection of power lines on feeding grounds (fatalities caused by electrocution), application of chemicals in agriculture, hang gliding and the gradual disappearance of traditional forms of pasture management from the area.
