The site is a Pannonic type of lowland represented with agrocenoses and sparse shelterbelts, shrubs and secondary xerophile and semixerophile grasslands rich in species that originated on loesses and sediments of Danube River. Tussock grassland species and engaged vegetation cover create an appearance of habitat that in the fallows resembles the meadow communities. Substantial part of the site is intensively utilized, target crops are especially the cultures of cereals, clover, sunflower and oilseed rape. Shelterbelts and shrubs consist especially of Robinia pseudoacacia, Ailanthus altissima, Acer campestre, Prunus sp. and Sambucus nigra.

Site is one of the three most important areas in Slovakia for nesting of Otis tarda and Falco vespertinus. Regularly winter here more than 1% of Central European population of Anser sp..

Intensive forms of agricultural production including insufficiently low proportion of the land set aside, removal of vegetation cover, absence of naturally occurring water bodies (old river branches) and widespread application of fertilisers and pesticides represent the major threat to the conservation status of the area. Large-scale ploughing in of the area in summer and autumn time is also seen as activity hampering the ongoing conservation efforts. Generally said, farming practices substantially reduce the availability of food in the area while methods of mechanised crop harvesting very often result in numerous killings of the adults and young alike. Area is also very popular with hunters who by the nature of their activities (hunting itself, construction of raised hides, and general disturbance of the wildlife) negatively impact the quality of life of local fauna (bird) species. Special attention should be paid to the gradual disappearance of the traditional forms of pasture management.
