The site covers the large interdune depression within the spring area. It is the part of the geomorphological unit Záhorská nížina Lowland, subunit Borská nížina Lowland, part Bor. Geological basement is formed by the Neogene sediments. According to the Slovak phytogeographical categorization, it belongs to the area of the Pannonian flora (area Pannonicum, part Eupannonicum, region Záhorská nížina Lowland). The following habitats of national importance are also present: pine-oak acidophilous forests, alder swamp forests, large sedge and Phalaris arundinacea beds, soft water springs, shallow-water floating communities and mire willow scrubs; pine-oak acidophilous forests are developed on the top of the dunes with the more extreme habitat conditions, alder swamp forests are limited to the wet interdune parts. Within the forest habitats, all succession phases are developed (growth, optimum and decomposition). The habitats are important for the occurrence of many protected and endangered species in the site.

The site represents an unique example of the transition mires and quaking bogs developed in the interdune depression with a presence of Sphagnum sp., Utricularia sp., Hottonia palustris, Hydrocotyle vulgaris, Drosera rotundifolia within Slovakia. It is important also due to the presence of invertebrate species of national importance Mantis religiosa, Menephilus cylindricus.

The site is highly vulnerable due to drainage (existing network of the drainage canals) as well as a potential change of the water regime (i.e. further draining); forest communities are threatened by clearcutting and the overall soil preparation after cutting (the whole soil profile including the roots remnants is piled up into mounds using heavy mechanisms).
